Riverside Montessori School
Riverside Montessori is located at 93rd Street and Riverside Drive, a stone’s throw from Riverside Park. The school is accredited by both the American Montessori Society (AMS) and the Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools (MSCES) and is an affiliate school of Columbia University. All our lead teachers are Montessori certified and have training in early childhood education.
Infant Teaching Teams
Lisa has taught at Riverside Montessori since 2003 and has worked in both the infant and toddler classrooms. She completed her American Montessori Society (AMS) Infant/Toddler training at the Center for Montessori Teacher Education/NY in 2007.
Ada joined Twin Parks in 2009. She has been working with young children for over 16 years and enjoys all professional development workshops as she continues her Montessori education. Ada has experience working in our infant, toddler and early childhood classrooms and brings enthusiasm and warmth to our community.
Annie Mai is originally from Ireland; she came to the United States in 1988. Before joining Riverside Montessori in 1999, Annie Mai worked with children ranging from toddlers to preschoolers. She has been with our infant program for over ten years.
Louise has worked at Twin Parks since 2009. She is a certified Infant/Toddler Montessori teacher. She holds a B.A. in Human Resource Management from South Hampton Solent University in the United Kingdom. Before coming to Twin Parks Montessori Schools, she worked as a substitute teacher with children ages 6 months to 5 years.
Andrea joined Riverside Montessori School in 2006. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Hunter College. Andrea speaks Portuguese, Spanish and English fluently and completed her ESL training at the Spanish American Institute to teach English as a second language.
Ami holds a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Arts from City College. Her experience working with children includes assisting teaching in an early childhood program, volunteer work in a weekend program and tutoring older children. Prior to joining Riverside she worked as a Patient Care Health Home Aide.
Toddler Teaching Teams
Veronica is an LPN and a Montessori Certified Infant/ Toddler Teacher. She joined Riverside Montessori in 2005 and has been a lead teacher for both the infant and toddler classrooms.
Joanna is a Montessori certified teacher in Infant and Toddler from CMTE Center for Montessori Teacher Education/NY. She joined Riverside Montessori in 2008.
Lis joined Riverside Montessori in 2007 as a substitute teacher and became a full time classroom teacher in 2012. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History and speaks both Indonesian and English.
Cornelia is a Montessori Certified Teacher and has completed her CDA (Child Development Associate) Degree from Touro College. She has been a teacher at Riverside Montessori since the school opened in 1997.
Gail has been at Riverside Montessori since 1998. She completed her Master’s Degree in education from Hunter College in 2004. She is a NYS certified teacher with experience in all age groups at Riverside Montessori. She spent this past summer in London where she began her AMI Montessori teacher certification.
Rita joined Riverside Montessori School as a substitute teacher in Fall 2013. She was born in Indonesia where she attended the Tarakanita College for Business Administration and worked in Human Resources for 17 years. She relocated to the United States in 2001. Rita loves working with young children and her team.
Sade received her Montessori Certification and Infant/Toddler Credential from MEIPN. She holds B.A. in Child Development and Women’s Studies from Tuft’s University. In Fall 2007 she attended the University of Ghana. Sade relocated to New York from Seattle, WA in 2013, where she was teaching in a Montessori School since 2009.
Mary received her Bachelor of Arts from The College of New Jersey in May 2012 majoring in Psychology and has been involved in many volunteer experiences with children. She has worked in summer camps—including Park West and in the Chester NJ school District. She received her AMS Infant/Toddler Credential in June 2014 from the WSMS Montessori Teacher Education Program. She is presently enrolled in the St. Catherine’s Montessori Master’s program and expects to be completed by June 2015. She loves outdoor active sports especially hiking and kayaking.
Vicki has been teaching at Riverside Montessori since 2000. Throughout her career as an assistant teacher, she has worked with children ranging in age from three months to 24 months.
Carolyn joined Riverside Montessori in 2012. She holds her Montessori credential for infants and toddlers and has been a lead Montessori teacher for the past 7 years. She attended St. Joseph’s College where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. She has over ten years of experience working with children from birth to 6 years and is a Youth Leader and Music Director for children 11-18 years old.
Elizabeth has a Bachelor’s degree with a major in English from Quinnipiac University. She earned a Master’s degree with a major in Early Childhood Education from the Bank Street College of Education. She brings seven years experience teaching children from 18 months to five years of age. She offers a strong focus on utilizing a Creative Curriculum and emphasizes creating a responsive classroom environment that reflects each child’s unique abilities and interests. She also aims to create a classroom that nurtures social emotional awareness and strong relationships.
Myriam has worked with toddlers in Montessori environments since 1997, and worked in the public school system for four years. She received her infant/toddler AMS Montessori certification at CMTE/NY. Myriam received her Child Development Associate credential from Touro College.
Jenna, our Infant/Toddler Coordinator, joined Riverside Montessori in 2006. She received her Infant and Toddler Montessori Certification from CMTE. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Psychology from Rutgers University and a Master’s Degree from Bank Street College in Early Childhood Education birth to second grade.
Sandy joined Riverside Montessori in 2007. She has her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania and is currently working on her Master’s Degree in Special Education from Drexel University.
Roxanne completed her American Montessori Society (AMS) Infant/Toddler training at WSMS-TEP/NY in June 2014. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Communications and Asian Studies from Manhattanville College. Roxanne is fluent in Hungarian and proficient in Spanish and Japanese.
Early Childhood Teaching Teams
Sarah has been at Riverside since 2007. She holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Theatre from New York University and completed her AMS Montessori Certification in Early Childhood in June of 2009. Her experience includes teaching theatre and creative drama classes for children ages’ 4- 18 years old.
Erica completed her American Montessori Society (AMS) Early Childhood training at the Princeton Center Teacher Education Montessori program in 2014. She holds a Bachelor’s in Communication from Susquehanna University.
Lida is originally from Colombia where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. She gained experience working with children in schools both in Colombia and New York City before joining Riverside Montessori in 2011. She completed her American Montessori Society (AMS) Early Childhood training at the Center for Montessori Teacher Education/NY in 2014. Lida has focused on developing and implementing a Peace Curriculum for the classroom.
Lee joined Riverside Montessori School in 2007. He completed his AMS Montessori Certification in Early Childhood in 2011. Lee holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Bard College. He has led nature programs for elementary school children and oversees curriculum for the after school science enrichment class.
Jillian received her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education at SUNY and her Master’s in Early Childhood Literacy at Hunter College. She joined Riverside Montessori in 2010 and has focused on science and literacy curriculum for the classroom and after school enrichment program. She completed her American Montessori Society (AMS) Early Childhood training at the Center for Montessori Teacher Education/NY in 2014.
Lauren joined Riverside Montessori in 2012. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from New England College. Her experience includes working as an assistant teacher in a 2nd grade classroom and assisting in both summer camps and an afterschool program in a Montessori school.
Valerie holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education and a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction with a Concentration in Language and Literacy. She has five years of experience teaching Grades K–8. She joined Riverside Montessori in 2012 and completed her Montessori certification in Spring 2013.
Denise is originally from the Island of Jamaica and came to NYC in 1987. She attended the College of Staten Island where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 2004. She also completed the Teacher Assistant/Childcare Provider in 2007. She joined Riverside Montessori in 2009 and completed her AMS Montessori Certification in spring 2013.
Cheryl has a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Public Relations and a minor in Psychology from Illinois State University. She received her Early Childhood Montessori certification in 2010. She previously worked as an assistant teacher at West Side Montessori School and a substitute teacher at our Twin Parks Central Park campus. Prior to exploring the world of Montessori, Cheryl worked in the Entertainment industry both in Los Angeles and here in NYC. She is thrilled to be joining the Riverside community in the Fall!
Dini completed her Master’s Degree at City College in Early Childhood Education in May of 2009 and is a certified Montessori teacher. Prior to joining us in 2007, she gained over 10 years experience teaching in Montessori schools both in Texas and New York City. She is originally from Indonesia.
Jill joined Twin Parks Montessori Schools in 2011. She graduated from Indiana University with a BA in Ballet and minor in Psychology. She completed her Early Childhood Montessori certification through CMTE/NY, and is also certified in yoga at the 200-hour level. She has taught Creative Movement for over 4 years, and enjoys sharing yoga, music and movement with the children.
Rafaela holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Universidad Catolica del Ecuador and a Master’s degree in Social and Healthy Policies from the Universite Pierre-Mendes of France. She is in the process of obtaining her Montessori Early Childhood Teacher Certification. Rafaela has experience working with preschool age children as a full time child-care provider. She is fluent in both Spanish and French.
James is a graduate of Purdue University and has a BS in Aviation Technology. One of James’ strengths is customer service and employee relations. He has experience in large corporations, hospitality, and banking. Most recently James was the Site Manager for City Medical of Union Square, an urgent care facility. He was responsible for daily operations.
Candace joined Riverside Montessori in 2006 as Educational Director and oversees admissions and exmissions. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from SUNY and a Master’s Degree from St. John’s University and holds NYS N-6 Permanent Certification. Candace is also Montessori Certified and taught for over ten years in a NYC Montessori school. Her experience also includes teaching for a Montessori Teacher Education Program and various other educational administrative roles.
Gloria joined Riverside in 2011 as our administrative assistant. She previously worked as a receptionist at a law firm for several years.
