Twin Parks Montessori Schools of Manhattan is proud to present its third and newest addition: the Central Park location on the Upper West Side. The school’s official ribbon cutting ceremony will feature guest speakers and refreshments afterward. Dr. JoAnn Deak, a child development educator and psychologist, will give a presentation titled “The First 10 Years of Your Child’s Life,” which will stress the importance of expanding a child’s learning potential. Andrew Ackerman, executive director of the Children’s Museum of Manhattan, will then join Dr. Deak for a session called Inspiring Creativity to discuss the ways you can encourage the arts and imagination in your child’s education.

Description: Dr. Phyllis Povel and Rita Kramer will discuss the Montessori approach to education. The discussion will be followed by a book signing session: Dr. Povell will sign her new book, “Montessori Comes to America: The Leadership of Maria Montessori and Nancy McCormick Rambusch”; and Rita Kramer will sign her new book, “Maria Montessori: A Biography.”
Dr. Phyllis Povell is professor emerita, former director of the early childhood program at Long Island University, and has served on numerous American Montessori Society and Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education committees. Rita Kramer has written on numerous subjects, including the crisis in America’s schools, and is a sought-after expert on Maria Montessori.
